Using The Main Screen

Auction Chief uses the Main Screen to display the results of auction searches. Before the Main Screen will display anything you have to setup an auction search, click here for an example of how to do that.

Here's what each of the toolbar buttons do.

Searches - This opens the Auction Searches window where you can see exactly what searches you have setup and remove searches you no longer want. For more information, click here.
Update From eBay - This updates your searches from eBay. If your selected search group is set to All Search Groups, then all of your active searches are updated otherwise only the selected search group is updated.
Show New - When this is selected, Auction Chief shows new auctions. You must Update from eBay before you'll see any auctions.
Show Watched - When this is selected, Auction Chief shows watched auctions. You must Update from eBay before you'll see any auctions.
Show Ignored - When this is selected, Auction Chief shows ignored auctions. You must Update from eBay before you'll see any auctions.
Search Group List - This is a list of all your search groups. The search group listed determines which auctions Auction Chief shows you. If All Search Groups is selected then all auctions are shown. You must Update from eBay before you'll see any auctions.
Advance Group - This button shows the next search group in the Search Group List.
New To Ignored - Clicking this button causes the status of all new auctions to be changed to Ignored. You use this button once you've scanned though the new auctions and switched the status of the ones that look interesting to you to Watch.
Go To eBay - This button switches you to the Browse Screen. For more information about the Browse Screen, click here.
Next Page - This button shows you the next page of auctions.
Previous Page - This button shows you the previous page of auctions.
Top - This button shows you the first page of auctions.
Bottom - This button shows you the last page of auctions.
Ends - This button controls how Auction Chief prints the ending time of auctions. Auction can either showing the time left before each auction expires or the actual time that each auction expires. If you select the actual time, it's based on your computers' time so you don't have to adjust auction end times for eBay time's time zone differences

Left click on an auction's description to switch to the Browse Screen and see that auctions eBay item page. Right click on an auction's description to see that auction in your favorite browser. The description of the last auction you clicked on is printed in red to show you where you are in the auction list. Other auctions that you've looked at are printed in dark blue. Click on the status of an auction to change it to Watched or Ignored. Click on the price to set up a snipe. (See sniping)

You can select which kinds of auctions are shown on the main screen by pressing the New, Watched and Ignored buttons on the tool bar. You can use the Search Group List to select a particular search group to view.

You can sort the main screen by status, description, price, number of bids, ending date and search group by clicking on the appropriate column header. Clicking the header again reverses the sort.

You can also sort the main auction screen by the lowest current bid price, the highest current bid price or by the ending date by using the Sort menu option.

You can select multiple auctions and switch their status as a block. Holding down control when left clicking adds the selected auction to the block. Holding down shift when left clicking adds all the auctions since the last selected auction to the block. Control-T switches the status of the selected auctions from new to watched, watched to ignored, and ignored to watched.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Tab Switches to the Browse Screen.
Ctrl-S Opens the Auction Searches window.
Ctrl-U Updates your searches from eBay
Ctrl-A Advances to the next search group in the Search Group List.
Ctrl-N Causes the status of all new auctions to be changed to Ignored.
Ctrl-E Switches how Auction Chief prints the ending time of auctions.
Ctrl-F Allows you to search auction titles.
F3 Searches for the next occurrence of auction title text.
Ctrl-T Switches selected auctions from new to watched, watched to ignored, and ignored to watched.
Ctrl-W Updates your watched auctions
